BiographyLester J. Neth, 65, Appleton City, MO, passed away the evening of Saturday, October 16, 2004, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Kansas City, MO, in the presence of his dear friend Herb Planchock. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, October 22 at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, October 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to American Cancer Society, Tribe of Mic-O-Say Trust Fund, or Trinity Methodist Church of Appleton City, MO. Lester was born September 17, 1939, in Charleroi, PA, and was preceded in death by his wife Doris, father Elliote R. Neth, and mother Olive A. Funk. He served in active military service as a Navy Seabee, and retired after 20 years with the US Postal Service. Lester was an avid outdoor sportsman and was particularly passionate about his role as a Scout Master. He used his sportsman talents as a Scout Master to mentor many young men to maturity as responsible and capable citizens through his years of service with Boy Scout Troop #338 in Grandview, MO. He was a life member and the "Keeper of the Wampum" in the Tribe of Mic-Osay. In 1986, he received Scoutings Silver Beaver Award. This is the highest local honor given by BSA for service as a scout master. Lester was also a very active member of Longview Methodist Church in Kansas City and Trinity Methodist Church in Appleton City, MO. Lester is survived by sister Evelyn Porter and husband John; brother Valoren (Bud) Neth; six nieces and nephews; cousins Dale Ludwick and husband Boyd, Kathy Ludwick (wife of deceased cousin Reed Ludwick), Richard Ludwick and wife Laura and daughter Gracie Mei; and dear friends Herb and Terrie Planchock.
